"Insensitive approach in handling the agitating groups has provided a fresh doze of oxygen to militancy in the state," UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh said.
The former student leader was referring to the reports where a senior leader of the influential Khasi Students' Union, Frederick Kharmawphlang, and 13 other youths had joined the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant outfit.
"This is not a good trend and it needs a lot of reasons and analysis which I am sure has been done by the police department," he said.
Criticising the Governor's address not mentioning the four month-long agitation by pressure groups demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit, Lyngdoh said, "The address contained a number of myths, cliche and a lot of contradictions."
Denying to accept the Governor's view that law and order in the state was stable in the past one year, Lyngdoh said, "Such tall claims cannot be digested by the people of the state. To top it all, the whole police department is in a total shamble due to state government's lack of responsibility and sense of direction.
