Seeking to unite socialist leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said "samajwadis" unite when the country is facing a problem but disintegrate when the crisis blows over.
He was speaking at the release of a book on socialism by late Balkrishna Gupta.
The book 'Hashiye Par Padi Duniya' was released by Vice-President Hamid Ansari.
"Samajwad is not politics. It is something above politics. In fact, it is a philosophy. Therefore, whenever the country faces a crisis, samajwadis from all over unite. But when the problem is settled, they seem to disintegrate," Yadav said.
Ansari said the title of the book is "unique and self-explanatory". Nothing much has been written on the history of socialism and this book is a good effort in highlighting the aspects of socialism, he said.
The Vice President called upon the people to read the first four lines of the Indian Constitution and opined that every school child should also read it.
The book is a compilation of writings and speeches of prominent socialist leader late Balkrishna Gupta, who was a confidant of Ram Manohar Lohia.
