Mumbai GPO platinum jubilee to offer delights for philatelists
Press Trust of India Mumbai The Philately Bureau of Mumbai General Post Office (GPO) is planning newer attractions for philatelists on the occasion of the GPO's platinum jubilee to be celebrated on June 21, a senior postal official said. "The Mumbai GPO, on completion of 75 years of services, would mark the occasion by releasing a special commemorative cover," Senior Deputy Director (Administration) of Mumbai GPO, Amit Patel said.
"A pictoral display based on Mumbai GPO would be held, which is expected to be attended by prominent philatelists of the city. The celebration would be held in the historic Bicentennial Hall of the GPO," he said.
"The services offered to philatelists commenced with Mumbai GPO, which opened on June 21, 1941. Mumbai GPO is the only international Philately Bureau of India and one of the largest in the country," he said.
"Philately Bureau of Mumbai GPO serves 4,948 domestic standing account holders by providing them collections of philatelic material in the form of new philatelic stamps, miniature sheets, special covers, etc on monthly basis," he said.
Besides, it also serves a large number of walk-in philately enthusiasts and foreign tourists, The officer said.
