The idol of city's most famous Ganesh mandal, Lalbaugcha Raja, was immersed at Girgaum chowpatty around 8 AM, almost 20 hours after it had set out.
As many as 2,40,477 Ganesh idols were immersed during the festivity. The last day of the festival witnessed 41,957 immersions in natural spots including seashores while 3,248 idols were immersed in artificial ponds, installed by BMC to encourage environment friendly move.
The immersion procession had begun at 8 AM yesterday and despite the incessant and heavy rains, revellers came out on roads in large numbers to bid adieu to 'Ganpati Bappa'.
The BMC and city police had made adequate arrangements, including deployment of choppers and drones to ensure smooth movement of procession.

Over 600 lifeguards have been deployed, 58 control cells and 74 first-aid centres have been set up in the city. Moreover, 81 motor boats and 60 ambulances were kept ready to tackle any eventualities.
Prime locations for immersion across the city are Girgaon chowpatty, Juhu beach, Powai lake, Dadar chowpatty, Madh jetty, Marve etc.
After the immersion procession ended, the civic body in a statement said, "We express our gratitude to police, traffic police, Navy, Coast Guard, NCC, Sri Sri Ravishankar's academy, etc who played important role in it.
