Mumbai's Janhavi upsets 3rd seed Aashu at Jr badminton meet

Unseeded Janhavi Jagtap of Mumbai caused a major upset by defeating third seed Aashu Khatale of Nashik in a girls under-15 first round match of the PNB MetLife West Zone Junior Badminton Championship here today.
The Mumbai shuttler was aggressive from the start and called the shots to record a straight games win.
The top two seeds, Aarya Deshpande of Satara and Tasnim Mir of Mehsana, in the girls' under-13 category, comfortably won their first round matches.
The No. 1 seed Aarya dropped just two points against Sehar Memon of Mumbai, winning 11-1, 11-1. Tasnim had a much easier time as she waltzed past Shravani Devidas Duraphe of Pune 11-0, 11-0.
Results: Girls' U-9 (quarter-finals): Taarini Suri (Mumbai) bt Shravani Walekar (Nashik) 21-9, 21-14; Sarah Susan George (Mumbai) bt Jiyaa Atul Dighe (Dombivli) 21-11, 21-10.
Boys' U-9 (1st round): Parth Abhijit Deore (Nashik) bt Soham Santosh Gokhale (Dombivli) 11-5, 11-2; Avighna Gadgil (Mumbai) bt Arjun Anand Jayswal (Mumbai) 11-7, 11-1; Vedant Chauhan (Sawantwadi) bt Rajveer Chauhan (Mumbai) 11-8, 11-4; Soham Samir Phatak (Mumbai) bt Devang Jayram Nambiar (Aurangabad) 11-0, 11-5.
