Mundhe issues demolition notice to institute for 'violations'

Unfazed by the no-trust motion passed against him by corporators, Navi Mumbai civic commissioner Tukaram Mundhe continues to crack the whip on illegal structures, as he has now issued a demolition notice to an educational institute in Nerul for "violation" of construction norms.
Talking to PTI about the notice, which was sent two days back, Mundhe said, "After getting complaints from various quarters, I had ordered a probe into the alleged violation of construction rules by the institute. During the inspections, our team found that the norms had indeed been flouted, following which, I issued the notice to the institute to demolish the illegal building."

"The process in this regard was initiated around four months back. We found that a new building was being built, which was reserved for parking space," the Navi Mumbai civic chief said.
"We have revoked the commencement certificate and issued the notice asking them pull down the structure within 30 days, failing which the civic administration will demolish it," he added.
On the no-confidence motion against him, Mundhe said, "I would continue to work as the administrative head, as long as government wishes me to work here."
Corporators across parties in NCP-ruled Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) had last week closed ranks to pass a no-confidence motion against Mundhe for his "undemocratic functioning" although his drive against illegal constructions, allegedly linked to politicians, earned him backing from citizens. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also seems to thrown his weight behind the official.

The no-trust motion was passed 105-6 at a special meeting convened by the NCP-ruled Corporation on October 25. In the 111-member NMMC, the Sharad Pawar-led party has the highest number of corporators and also holds post of Mayor, whereas as the Deputy Mayor belongs to Congress.
Mundhe, who is known to be an upright officer, has received immense support from Navi Mumbaikars for running a spirited campaign against illegal constructions, mostly linked to the nexus between some ruling corporators and private builders.
