Municipal schools gear up for Modi's speech on Teacher's Day

Preparations are underway at the schools run by all the three BJP-led municipal corporations here for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on the Teacher's Day, civic officials said today.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), which has over 750 schools under its jurisdiction, said instructions are being followed as per the Delhi government guidelines for the day.
"We have about 760 schools under our jurisdiction. While the children in the morning shift will be exempted from attending the school, second shift students and others will be attending the programme," Director, Information and Press, NDMC, Yogendra Singh Mann said.
Prime Minister Modi will give a pep talk to about 1,000 selected students at the Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi on September 5, which will be beamed live to over 18 lakh government and private schools in the country through Doordarshan and education channels.
The Prime Minister will also interact with students and take questions through video-conference facility. The telecast will start at 3 PM and continue up to 4.45 PM.
"Some schools already have television and those which do not, are arranging for a set. The students of second shift (starting 12.30 PM) and general shift (starting 1 PM) will be attending the programme. Students in 23 of our aided and 164 recognised schools will also be attending," Mann said.

Arrangements are also being made in East Delhi municipal schools, numbering over 550, said Mann, who is also the Director (Information and Press), East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).
Preparations are underway at 589 schools of South Delhi Municipal Corporation also, an official of the corporation said.
On the occasion, the civic bodies will also award teachers.
"Forty teachers from NDMC and 25 from EDMC will receive municipal teachers award on the day and there will be colurful activities to mark the occasion," Mann said.
