Chandrajeet Kumar fired at a police team of Crime Branch that tried to capture him near a bus stand close to Pragati Power Station, where he was tipped to meet his associates, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Police returned the fire and later overpowered Kumar. A US-made pistol and a stolen motor cycle were recovered from him, the police officer said.
Kumar had jumped parole in a murder case and a reward of Rs one lakh was declared on his arrest.
While on the run, Kumar was allegedly engaged in smuggling illegal firearms from Munger in Bihar to Delhi and NCR region, the officer added.
