Murder case of 74-year-old man solved: police

With the arrest of the victim's tenant here, police has claimed to have solved a murder case of 74-year-old retired DTC employee in the city.
On the intervening night of May 24 and May 25, the police received a call regarding murder of an old man in MS Park in the city.
They found that the victim, identified as Ratan Lal was murdered by stuffing cloth in his mouth and strangulating him.
On the basis of CCTV footage of the camera in the area, police claimed that his tenant Manoj had committed the murder and robbed Lal's house along with an accomplice.
Manoj, a rickshaw-puller, had committed murder and robbery along with his associate Pardeep and were caught through screening of CCTV footage of the street where the victim's house is located, DCP (North East) Veenu Bansal said.
After the incident, the valuable items in the house were missing while the accused Manoj was absent. An FIR of murder was registered at M S Park police station in the connection.

The CCTV cameras of the local area were searched for footage and one camera fixed at a house on the corner of the street where Lal's house is located, Manoj and his associate were found carrying away stolen goods, the officer said.
After extensive enquiry among local ricksaw-pullers, the police got to know that Manoj was planning to leave for his native village in Uttar Pradesh, after the incident. He was later arrested from the New Delhi police station.
According to police, Manoj had planned the robbery believing his landlord possessed a lot of cash and jewellery. He had also sent back his wife, who lived with him, to his native village, as part of his plan to commit the crime, the DCP said.
