Rthymscape man Bickram Ghosh, celebrated dancuese-actor Mamata Shankar and eminent vocalist Ajay Chakraborty have been bestowed the 'kala samman' by the PRSI as part of this year's initative to pay obeisance to Bengal's rich musical legacy.
"We and Mamodi (Mamatashanker) couldnot have been born anywhere else but Bengal. In whatever fields we are, our compositions will always be rooted to our very own legacy with contemporary feel. You can talk about my Tagore Lounge or any other album," Bickram, who was conferred honour for his contributions, told PTI.
"Music knows no boundaries, no definition. It fits into no specific entity. It only flows with its own rhythm," the drummer having performed with musical legends like Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankarm and father Pt Shankar Ghosh and George Harrison, said.
"Music is running inside my veins like my blood. I religiously do 'riyaaz' every morning. I can sense rhythm in the water flowing in the river, the carpenter hammering the wood, the tap of our feet during walk, our talks, its everywhere. Music is our mother nature; you respect, nurture and grow with it," Chakroborty said.
"We the Shankar household are embedded with this city and its cultural psyche. Wherever else you will find such appreciations of every subtle nuance of a musical note or a dance move! Manikda (Satyajit Rar), Mrinalda (Sen), Ritwik and all present day directors are part of the legacy which made us proud of our rich film making tradition," the Grihajudhho actor (of Buddhadeb Dasgupta) said.
The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) is an apex body of PR professionals.
