Musical event to support animal shelter Friendicoes

A bevvy of music bands like the Indian Ocean, Zoya, Think Floyd, Contra etc are chipping in to help raise funds for Friendicoes, an animal-welfare NGO looking after the welfare of dogs, through a musical extravaganza here.
The centre, which was founded in 1979 is on the verge of a shutdown due to a serious fund crunch has in the recent past been the beneficiary of online campaigns and initiatives on the social media, which has helped raise approximately Rs 60 lakh.
The NGO, which caters to approximately around 1800 to 2000 animals on a daily basis across the Delhi NCR region, says it is still facing a shortfall of yet another Rs 20 lakh to settle its bills and expenses.

Meanwhile, the musical event scheduled to be organised at Zorba in Sultanpur would host musical bands like Indian Ocean, Zoya, Think Floyd, Contra etc.
The bands would perform free of cost and there is no entry fee for the event. People are can donate anything they want from their side.
"The bands will not charge a single penny. In fact Rahul from Indian Ocean band called up saying that he would want to perform for the fund raiser. So the bands are performing voluntarily and all the fonations would be given to Friendicoes," says Ranjan Chopra, MD of Zorba.

The musical evening invites people to get their pets in order to spread awareness among the people to adopt pets and look after them. Stalls of pet food and other similar things have been set up to fulfill the cash deficit of the NGO.

"We have invited people to get their pets because we think that this would spread awareness and encourage people to adopt pets. Also we have 5 stalls each costing Rs 20,000 which would sell pet food and other similar things. We are also selling plants to raise money," says Chopra.
The event would aim to raise fund and decide the future course of action for many such NGO which look after pets.
"I have been associated with Friendicoes and have been donating to it for a long time now. So I was shocked to know about the condition where the NGO did not have money to buy food and medicines for the pets. With this event we aim to generate something on a regular basis and bring out a full time solution to such a kind of problem," says Ranjan.

"We are going to list down the name of the people who have donated and strike a bond with them to donate on a quarterly or yearly basis , whichever is convenient for them," says Chopra.
A sufi night will also be hosted on September 19 for the same purpose, organisers said.
