Ghazal maestros Ustad Ahmed and Mohammed Hussain delivered a musical ode in memory of leading philanthropist and promoter of Indian literature Sahu Ramesh Chandra Jain here recently.
The Ghazal evening "Ek Shaam Ghazal Ke Naam" organised by Bharatiya Jnanpith began with a the melodious rendition "Tujhse milne ki justajoo bhi haidil" and drifted over to the top of the lush instrumentation.
The jugalbandi of different musical instruments - tabla, flute, violin, sitar and keyboard during their performance not only added depth to the Urdu poetry but also soaked the audience in their romantic harmonies.
The ghazal maestros who began their singing career in 1958 as classical and thumri artists were honoured by Bharatiya Jnanpith with "Kala Anoop Award" for their immense contribution in preserving Indian cultural heritage and Urdu poetry.
"We have always been devoted to our Indian artistic heritage. Every year we honour those artists who are working to preserve our languages, our art and culture. It's a legacy which needs to be preserved and passed on to the future generations," Leela Dhar Mandloi, director Bharatiya Jnanpith, said.
Born in Rajasthan as sons of the famous ghazal and thumri singer Ustad Afzal Hussain, the duo belongs to the Jaipur Gharana and have released around 80 albums till date. Other than Urdu shayari their bhajan compositions are widely heard by the listeners.
Famously known as the Hussain brothers the duo is widely praised for their heartfelt emotions and melodic panache of their Ghazals and compositions. Rajasthan Sangeet and Urdu Academy has acknowledged their work in the past with titles like "Rooh-e-Ghazal" and "Bhajan Samrat".
The duo held the audience with their poetic and soothing renditions and created an eternal and acoustic atmosphere for the evening.
