A committee, constituted by Goa Tourism Department, today selected Fernandes as King Momo for Goa Carnival 2017 to be held between February 25-28. The 65-year-old was among four applicants aspiring to lead the parade.
King Momo is a mythological figure who symbolically rules the State during the Carnival time and also leads the float parades held across Goa.
Fernandes, a resident of Panaji, is a retired Government employee. He is a well-known musician and popular figure in the Goan entertainment industry.
This is his fifth time Fernandes will be seen as King Momo at the Carnival and he is thrilled. "I love Goa, I love to be King Momo and I am all set to enthral Goa and visitors to the State during the four-day celebrations," he said.
King Momo's entourage will lead the float parades at four centres: Panaji (February 25), Margao (February 26), Vasco (February 27) and Mapusa (February 28).
Float parades will also be held in Curchorem and Shiroda on February 27 and at Ponda on February 28.
