Muslim prisoners to be exempt from hard labour during Ramzan

Prison authorities in the state have been directed to exempt Muslim prisoners from hard labour during the holy month of Ramzan starting from July 9.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave directions to the DGP, Prisons in this regard after state Minorities Commission member Tarsem Ahmed called on him at his residence here this evening, a CMO spokesperson said.
Badal also asked the DGP to issue instructions to all the jail superintendents to ensure that Muslims inmates are allowed to perform prayers for Ramzan, during which they observe fast.
He asked the DGP to ensure strict compliance of the instructions.
