Making a strong pitch for a separate Vidarbha state, senior Congress leader Vilas Muttemwar wrote to the party leadership seeking their support for the creation of the new state.
In a letter to party President Sonia Gandhi written on June 30, Muttemwar said one of the main reasons why the party could not win a single seat in Vidarbha region in Lok Sabha polls was "continued neglect" for the demand of storing statehood to Vidarbha.
In a separate letter to AICC general secretary in-charge for Maharashtra Mohan Prakash on July 15, the Congress leader expressed hope that members of the Congress Working Committee would appreciate the importance of the creation of the separate state and urged his party to take all possible steps to push the BJP-led NDA government to fulfil this long-pending demand.
He said the CWC had in past resolved to create a separate state of Vidarbha along with Telangana.
Releasing both the letters to the media today, Muttemwar asked the party leadership to impress upon the BJP-led government at the Centre to accede to the long-standing demand for Vidarbha.
