Muzaffarnagar by-election slated for February 13

Last date for filing nominations is Jan 27 and the result will be declared on Feb 18

The Election Commission today notified the process of filing nomination papers for Muzaffarnagar assembly by-election slated for February 13.

Returning officer Rajender Singh announced that last date for filing the nomination for the by-election is on January 27, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on January 28.

The by-election for Muzaffarnagar assembly constituency is scheduled for February 13 and the counting for February 16, while the result would be declared on February 18, he said.

The by-poll has been necessitated following the demise of sitting SP MLA Chitranjan Swaroop on August 19, last year.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the collectorate compound with extra police been deployed as a precautionary measure.

Muzaffarnagar goes to polls along with Bikapur in Faizabad and Deoband in Saharanpur, all the constituencies previously held by the Samjawadi Party and fell vacant after the death of the respective MLAs.
