The owner of retail network company N Mart has been arrested by Andhra Pradesh police from Surat for allegedly duping investors crores of rupees through an illegal multi-level marketing scheme.
Gopal Shekhawat, who was evading arrest for some time, was nabbed from Surat on April 30 and brought to Ongole in Prakasam district after a court issued a non-bailable warrant against him, a senior police officer said today.
"The NBW was executed and Shekhawat was apprehended from Surat," District Superintendent of Police K Raghuram Reddy said.
Shekhawat is accused of running an illegal money circulation scheme and duping many people to the tune of several crores of rupees.
The SP said that Gopal had collected over Rs 600 crore in deposits from people across the country, including Rs 14 crore from Prakasam district.
"Further investigation needs to be done and we will be filing application for police custody," he said.
