"Bihar will be the biggest beneficiary by getting highest quantity of 55 lakh tonne of foodgrains after the Food Act comes into action. Besides, 85 per cent of its rural population and 74 per cent in urban areas will be benefitted from it," Saxena, member of NAC, headed by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, told Bihar Congressmen.
Saxena spoke about advantages of Food Bill at a training camp organised by state Congress party which was attended by district Congress presidents, members of different wings of the party and state leaders.
Attributing the success of the Food Bill which would take shape of Act soon due to efforts of Sonia Gandhi, Saxena said the legislation will provide security of food for 67 per cent of the country's population by making available rice at a rate of Rs 3 a kg, wheat at Rs 2 per kg and millet Rs 1 per kg.
Giving details about the Food Bill, the NAC member said as part of it, pregnant and lactating women will get an allowance of Rs 6000. There would be arrangements for stocking foodgrains in district and sub division headquarters and faultless food distribution system.
PCC President Ashok Chaudhary asked party members to launch an intensive awareness campaign about the Food Legislation in districts and blocks across the state from August 20 to 27 this year.
