Nagaland today celebrated Teachers' Day by honouring 33 teachers with state-level award at a glittering function organized by School Education Department in the state capital here.
The teachers received citation and cash award while the state government also extended financial support to seven teachers undergoing serious treatment.
"Good teachers occupy a very special place in every society, because they are the ones who mould and shape..." Chief Minister TR Zeliang said in a message, which was read out by Minister for School Education Yitachu during the celebration.
Stating that a good teacher should have the instinct to recognize talent and nurture it, the CM said, "One important duty of a teacher is to inculcate strong moral and human values in the students".
The CM said that in an emerging culture, where both parents are working, where friends are available only on the facebook or internet-enabled social media, teachers now have greater responsibilities than ever before.
"They have the accountability to impart the much needed set of right values among the young generation as well as the set of values that include love, peace, tolerance and non-violence," Zeliang said.

Minister for School Education, Yitachu in his address as the chief guest of the celebration said "the Department of School Education must aim at building up human resource development by imparting value-based knowledge and education and not just qualification certificate".
Students from various schools regaled the teachers with their performances rehearsed for days for this special occasion and also honoured them by gifting flowers.
