Congress Legislature Party leader Tokheho Yepthomi today alleged that money and arms seizure during the elections in Nagaland indicated that the state was ruled by 'money and muscle power'.
"Money and arms seizure is clear witness that Nagaland is ruled by money and muscle power," Yepthomi, who won from won Dimapur III defeating sitting NPF MLA Azheto Zhimomi, said in a statement here.
Referring to the Nagaland Baptist Church Council's message for free and fair elections, he said that it had not succeeded in dissuading the majority of the people from involving in malpractices.
"The majority of the people have not given their conscience vote but have given their votes based on the amount of money received," he alleged.
"People elect their representatives to serve the public and the state .... Whereas, the last two elections have clearly shown how the majority of Nagas lust for money," he said.
Mentioning some specific seizures, such as the case of NPF candidate from Tamlu constituency, Home Minister Imkong L Imchen's arrest, apprehension of two women at Peren with cash reportedly meant for elections, he said, these were just some examples of 'gross malpractices', 'violation' of the Model Code of Conduct and 'blatant disregard' for the law of the land.
"Ten years of misrule under the NPF has completely damaged the Naga way of life beyond repair," he alleged and appealed to Nagas 'not to lose their conscience in the interest of our future generations'.
