He assumed the charge last month.
Prabhu, an Indian Forest Service Officer, had earlier served as Joint Secretary in Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, an official release said.
Prabhu in his new role would undertake the responsibility of overall development of sericulture, silk industry of the country. He would also advise Government in matters related to silk industry, it said.
Central Silk Board is responsible for organising sericultural research, training of sericulture personnel, basic seed production and review of imports and exports, the release said.
