With an eye on the votes of poorvanchalis, who comprises about 30 per cent of Delhi's population, former Union Minister Nagmani, best known for his frequent party hopping, today floated a new political party here.
Launching the Samras Samaj Party (SSP), the former Chatra MP, who has switched sides as many as 11 times in the past, said his party would work only for the uplift of poorvanchalis and pravasis, who he claimed, constitutes "80 per cent" of Delhi's population, citing some "internal survey".
"People may accuse us of regionalism but working for the 80 per cent amounts to nationalism. We will work strictly for them because they have faced nothing but neglect over the years," he said.
Nagmani also promised reservations for Muslims and upper castes apart from legislating stringent laws like that in "Dubai" with provisions of punishments like "hands being chopped off" for committing crime against women.
"We will legislate stringent laws on crime committed against women like the ones in Dubai and Europe which have provisions of hands being chopped off so that no one dares to commit any such crime," Nagmani said.
Interestingly, after promising to project a poorvanchali face as the party's CM candidate during the Delhi Assembly polls, Nagmani offered not to contest elections provided Congress, BJP or AAP does the same while ruling out a post-poll alliance.
"We will not contest elections if any of the established parties project a CM face from Poorvanchal but we enter into any post-poll alliance," the former minister said.
The party, in its agenda, also lists measures like Rs 5000 monthly assistance to unemployed educated youth and free electricity and water for those who fall in the BPL category among a host of other promises.
