Describing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's decision to form a committee to recommend guidelines on farm loan waiver as "an act of hoodwinking and delaying tactics", YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) today asked him to implement his pre-poll promise in letter and spirit.
Farmers are "agitated" over the decision of the government which has constituted a committee to look into the matter instead of waiving the loans straightaway, M V S Nagireddy, YSRCP farmers' wing convener, told reporters here.
"Before the elections, TDP had promised to announce waiver of all agricultural loans (after coming to power). Chandrababu Naidu asked people not to repay their loans taken for agricultural purposes and also gold loans.
"TDP had also issued advertisements in newspapers promising waiver of crop loans, tractor loans and gold loans," he said.
"Instead of announcing a waiver, Naidu has appointed a committee now to hoodwink people. Farming community is agitated over this delaying tactics."
"In the past, several committees were constituted on farmer issues such as Mohan Kanda Committee, Swaminathan Committee, Jayanthi Ghosh Committee and Bhupendra Huda led-CMs' committee. The working of all these committees came to nought. This committee (constituted by Naidu), too, will go the same way," Nagireddy charged.
The YSR Congress leader asked Naidu, who took charge yesterday, to first implement the loan waiver and then set up a panel to formulate guidelines on reimbursement of the funds to the banks.
"Or else, we will not keep quiet," he warned.
