Naidu orders probe into roof collapse

Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has ordered a probe into the collapse of the roof of an under construction portico in the guest house at the Central University in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur district.
As per the reports, five construction workers were killed and 16 others were wounded in the incident which occurred yesterday.
Naidu, who was in Andhra Pradesh when the incident occurred, immediately directed Special DG of CPWD of Chennai region to rush to the site, speed up the rescue and relief measures and conduct a preliminary enquiry, according to a senior UD Ministry official.
He also announced an interim ex-gratia of one lakh each to the families of the five workers who died in the unfortunate incident.
Besides, he said that the medical expenses of the workers who got injured will be taken care of by the government.
He spoke to Secretary and directed him to depute a senior officer for an immediate enquiry and to fix responsibility in the whole incident.
The Minister has directed that the complete report should be submitted to him by tomorrow, the official said.
