After keeping a list of nine names sent by the state government for nomination as MLCs on hold for over a month, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today gave his approval to four of the recommended persons while seeking more information about the remaining five.
"The Governor has approved the names of SRS Yadav, Lilawati Kushwaha, Ram Vriksh Singh Yadav and Jitendra Yadav for nomination to the Vidhan Parishad. The Governor called Chief Miniser Akhilesh Yadav to the Raj Bhawan this afternoon and apprised him of the decision," a Raj Bhawan release said.
With regard to the remaining five names of Kamlesh Pathak, Sanjay Seth, Ranvijay Singh, Abdul Sarfaraz Khan and Rajpal Kashyap, the Governor has sent complaints received about them to the chief minister and desired that an inquiry be conducted to find out the truth.
The release said that some individuals and organisations had submitted complaints regarding these five people.
The Governor also desired that the provisions with regard to nomination of persons making exemplary contribution in the field of art, literature, science, social work should be followed in letter and spirit of the Constitution.
In May, Naik had sought detailed information about the background checks done on the nine persons recommended by the state government for the UP Legislative Council under the nominated members category.
The Governor had sent a letter to the chief minister asking information on three points - criminal history of the candidates if any, pending case against them, bank default.
He had also sought details about the areas of art, literature, or social service in which they had made important contribution as these seats are meant for apolitical people making significant contribution in these areas.
