In a memorandum handed over to Kohli today at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, Congress urged him to ask BJP-ruled state government to hand over the probe to a sitting High Court judge. The opposition alleged that the state dispensation is trying to "shield" the real culprits.
The delegation was led by Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki and leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, said a release by Gujarat Congress.
Through their memorandum, they stated that the victim will get justice only if the probe is handled by a sitting High Court judge.
The Budget session of state Assembly is commencing from February 20. The Congress also warned the Governor that their MLAs will not let the House function if there is no mention of Naliya gangrape case in the inaugural address to the House by the Governor, said the memorandum.
In the FIR, the 24-year-old victim alleged that she was raped by at least nine persons on different occasions a year ago. She alleged the accused were in fact running a sex racket in Kutch district where they blackmailed many women by making their obscene videos.
