"We demand naming of Zojila tunnel on the name of former Army Chief General K S Thimmaya, who is also called as saviour of Zojila in 1947", NCP state chief and former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh told reporters here today.
Former Minister for Tourism, Information and Ladakh Affairs Thakur, welcoming the Foundation laying of Tunnel said, this will help in rapid economic development of the strategically located region.
Singh urged that this tunnel should be named after General Thimmaya who carried the tanks by dismantling and assembling and has created history in the mountainous region.
Singh, who was a minister in Qasim's Govt in J&K, is instrumental in opening up Ladakh region for Tourists and had persuaded the then Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi for this purpose.
"Thank God though very late after 38 years, only the foundation stone is being laid, I wish that tunnel under Zojila pass which is the lowest pass in the Himalayan region but gets the Highest snowfall and remains block for 6 months will be constructed very soon", Singh added.
