The Nandankanan Zoological Park here was thrown open to visitors today after remaining closed for two days due to extensive damage caused by rains and storm triggered by a nor'wester.
"Despite scorching heat, a large number of visitors thronged the zoo when it was reopened after two days," said Director of the Zoological Park S Acharya.
Stating that work has been undertaken on a war footing to restore normalcy in the park, he said all the uprooted trees and other objects had been removed and the ticketing system restored.
He said different structures including some sheds which suffered damages had been repaired. The animal enclosures in the sprawling park were, however, in proper shape.
All inmates of the zoological park and the visitors present in the zoo during the storm were safe and nobody was hurt, he said.
A senior zoo official said over 100 trees had been damaged and power lines snapped due to the storm. Due to power failure, ticket booking was affected following a damage caused to the 33 KV line.
