The event was organised by the Telangana Government.
Family members of Rao were present on the occasion.
There has been a demand from the late Prime Minister's family and fans that he should be given Bharat Ratna.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao called Narasimha Rao a 'Telangana bidda' (son of the soil) who rose from village sarpanch to the Prime Minister. The whole country is proud of Rao, the CM said in a statement.
Telangana Congress president and MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy led the party cadres in paying homage to the late PM.
