Narasingh Mishra meets CJ on HC bench at Balangir
Press Trust of India Cuttack A delegation of Balangir Bar Association accompanied by Odisha Assembly opposition leader Narasingh Mishra today met the Orissa High Court Chief Justice Amitava Roy here and urged him to consider the Western Odisha town of Balangir as the suitable place to establish a permanent bench of the High Court.
Speaking to newsmen here after meeting the Chief Justice, Mishra, a former president of the Balangir Bar Association, said the Chief Justice has assured the delegation that he (CJ) would take a decision in this context keeping the interest of the State and its people at the top.
Mishra, a Congress legislator from Balangir said the meeting with the Chief Justice was held in a cordial atmosphere. The Balangir Bar association President, general secretary and four other executives of the Association comprised the delegation that met the CJ.
Mishra pointed out that since the State government and the Central government in principle have decided to set up a permanent bench of the High Court in Western Odisha, all efforts now should be made to set up the same in Balangir. He said Balangir and Baripada have earlier served as Circuit benches of Patna High Court before the Orissa High Court was set up in Cuttack in 1948.
