Increasing its network in eastern India, hospital chain Narayana Health today announced acquisition of Westbank Hospital for Rs 150 crore.
Located on the outskirts of Kolkata, Westbank Hospital is a multi-speciality hospital in Howrah having 400 beds spread over two units.
"We are upgrading the second unit into a cancer care centre. We will add more facilities, a second radiotherapy unit and infrastructure for doing bone marrow transplant," Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, managing director and group CEO of Narayana Health, told PTI.
The company, he said, will soon recruit around 200 medical staff, including doctors and nurses for the upgradation.
With 1200 beds, Narayana Health, which is spearheaded by celebrated cardiologist Devi Prasad Shetty, now has six hospitals in the city and its outskirts.
Expanding its footprint in eastern India, Narayana is also building two new 250-bedded hospitals in Siliguri and Bhubaneswar at a total cost of Rs 140 crore.

"It would be a multi-speciality hospital with focus on tertiary care," Raghuvanshi said adding the construction in Bhubaneswar will be completed in the next fiscal year while the one in Siliguri will take around 2.5 years.
"We are looking at a mix of greenfield and brownfield projects for our expansion," he said.
Earlier in the year, Narayana had taken over Jubilant First Trust Healthcare's hospital business consisting of two hospitals in Barasat and Berhampore.
The hospital chain has a strong network of 27 hospitals across 17 cities in India.
Earlier this year, the group opened a tertiary care multispecialty hospital in Cayman Islands making Narayana Health the first Indian healthcare chain to set-up a hospital in the western world.
