: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister V Narayanasamy today requested the Lt Governor to arrange for a CBI probe into murders that have rattled Puducherry in the last two years, 'to ensure a detailed, impartial and uninterrupted enquiry'.
Speaking to reporters at his residence here today, he alleged that there were frequent murders of political functionaries, including those belonging to the ruling AINRC.
This included the murder of an opposition Congress activist in nearby Ariyankuppam block last year, his brother's murder at nearby Poornankuppam village last week and that of an AINRC functionary here a few days back.
He said he had written to the Lt Governor in this regard.
Narayanasamy said if the Lt Governor does not take steps for a CBI probe, Congress would move the Madras High Court to issue orders for a CBI enquiry into the murders.
He opposed BJP government's move to privatise Railways, saying it would have serious repurcussions on lakhs of travelling public.
Narayanasamy also charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with initiating steps to slash financial allocations to states under various welfare schemes and effecting cuts in subsidies on various counts and said Congress would soon launch protests against the Centre's 'anti people' measures.
He also criticised Karnataka's plan to construct two dams across the Cauvery river at Mekedattu and demanded the move be imediately dropped as it would have serious implications in getting water for Tamilnadu and Karaikal in the cauvery river system.
