Naseeruddin Shah plays an earthy butcher in 'Khasir Katha' (Tale of a goat) where he converses with a goat who turns to be the mirror of human self and chronicler of events in a unique tale.
Director Judhajit Sarkar says, "When I narrated the script to Naseerji, with whom I had previously worked in a Hindi movie, he said, "I am going to be the first person in history to act with a goat."
"I won't say he was stunned, it was more of being pleasantly surprised," Judhajit told PTI
In the film, the butcher, who is about to slaughter the goat, gives in to its plea for life and the events unfold in flashback as the ghost talks about the events it had encountered.
"There is an element of disbelief in the film. 'Khasi' represents the underdog of the society, having no significance about its existence as it is meant to be slaughtered for consumption.
"A goat is powerless representing the underdog. My story is all about underdogs where the struggle and abuse of a female boxer, taking up the gloves to inspire her brother, and conquering the crown by mental resilience runs parallel and merges at one point," Judhajit said.

Anindita Bose, having starred in blockbuster Bengali serial Gaaner Oparey, essayed the archetypal fighter woman, here in the avatar of a female boxer since a girl braves one of the toughest challenges and taunts in this sport.
"I was taken aback when approached for this role. This is one sport which is so unlike girls, where the competitor loves to inflict pain and also receives serious blows in process. I went to Khidderpore Boxing Club to perfect the jab and foot movement.
"And yes Khasir Katha is the story of those not taken into reckoning. It is a very out of box film," Anindita said.
Anindita, who missed sharing frame with Naseerudddin in the film, said, "There are two stories in the film and I sorely missed acting with him. But I watched how he effortlessly cruised into the self of a lungi-clad butcher and perfected his crude manners."
"The film also talks about the freedom of women and how fathers come to the aid of their daughters when they are faced with hurdles. It was a privilege to be guided by Subhasis Mukherjee, who enacts my 'Abbus' role. I had seen him in characters with shades of comedy. But here he is a doting dad of a determined girl facing catcalls at the boxing arena," she said.
