A case has been registered against a US national and a Mumbai-resident for duping a woman over Rs Rs 22 lakh by promising her a job abroad.
Devlali Camp police in Nashik district booked US national Peter Downson and Nicolas Magrin, a resident of Bandra in Mumbai, for allegedly cheating Yogita Nagare (29), a local woman, by promising her a job through a website, police said.
They allegedly asked her to deposit Rs 22,24,332 for getting the job this July, pretending to be acting on behalf of a fictitious company called Bet Corporation, based in San Fransisco, police said.
While Magrin posed as "visa officer" of the company, Downson posed as its president.
Nagare deposited the amount across various accounts as per their instructions, but realised that she had been cheated when no job offer came.
