The residents of Nashik city in Maharashtra are experiencing a shivering 'cold wave' with the minimum temperature plummeting to 7.3 degree Celsius.
Besides the night temperature dipping to 7.3, the Niphad tehsil in the district was colder at 5 degree Celsius last night, the MeT office said here.
The cold wave is expected to be beneficial for wheat, onions crops, but not for grapes as the fruit may develop cracks due to the low temperatures, it said.
Because of the cold wave conditions, people at many places have been seen putting up camp fires while many are preferring to stay indoors in the evenings, leading to a reduction in vehicular traffic in the night hours.
The MeT office said the chilly winds blowing from the north have led to the cold wave in the city, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats and on the banks of river Godavari.
