Having finished runner-up in the inaugural tournament in 2010, Natasha earned herself the chance to go one better this time thanks to a gritty 6-4, 6-2 win over third seed Nupur Kaul at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club (JVPG) here.
She did not have it easy though as Kaul fought back from 1-4 to 4-4 in the first set but failed to carry that momentum further.
Meanwhile, wild card entrant Sharmada who hasn't looked back since dropping the opening set of her first round match got the better of her doubles partner Sowjanya Bavisetti 6-3, 6-4. Bavisetti looked jaded from her brilliant but exhausting comeback win over top seed Eetee Maheta yesterday.
In the men's competition, defending champion A S Suresh Krishna advanced to the semi-finals after his eighth seeded opponent Abhijeet Tiwari was ejected from the tournament following a heated exchange with the chair umpire.
Tiwari was trailing 4-1 when he received his marching orders.
Krishna will next face Mohit Mayur, the conqueror of top seed Vishnu Vardhan, in the semis, who coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tushar Mandlekar.
