"The nation-wide strike will be against anti-labour reforms being brought in favour of domestic and foreign corporate houses, anti-farmer land acquisition bill being brought by the Centre, inflation, unemployment and other issues like outsourcing, privatisation," CPI leader and general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Gurudas Dasgupta said here today.
He said that the Central government was bringing labour reforms which are not in favour of labour working in manufacturing and farming sectors. Rather, labour reforms are being carried out to benefit the corporates, he claimed.
Leaders demanded that the Centre should fix the minimum wage of labour at Rs 15,000 per month as it has become difficult to make both ends meet with "rising" inflation.
Dasgupta said a labour convention will be held on July 18 at Jalandhar where various Punjab labour unions will participate to mobilise support for September 2 strike.
Prominent labour unions which are participating in the strike are CITU, INTUC, HMS and BJP -backed Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, said AITUC, General Secretary (Punjab Unit), Nirmal Dhaliwal.
