Left-ruled Tripura government today received praise from The National Commission for Scheduled Castes for the development and progress of the people of the scheduled castes living in the state.
"The state is free from caste conflict and violence and the community in the state was receiving good education. The rate of literacy of the schedule caste community is very good. It is 89 per cent. Their progress and all-round development is appreciable," Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes P L Punia said here today.
A delegation of the commission headed by Punia came here yesterday to interact with the elected representatives and other important personalities of the scheduled castes.
"A common form of caste discrimination in India is untouchability, which is widely practiced in the country and the scheduled caste community are the primary target. But here we have not witnessed any such feature," he told said.
The delegation met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today and also reviewed the schemes for the scheduled castes provided by the central government and expressed satisfaction over the process of its implementation.
