Nagaland Voluntary Consumers' Organisation (NVCO) today observed National Consumer Day by raising voices under the slogan - 'consumers are to be protected' from price-rise, illegal taxation, adulteration, sub-standard goods and inefficiency services.
"The observation of this Day provides an opportunity for highlighting the importance of the consumer movement and the need to make every consumer more aware of their rights and responsibilities," stated NVCO President, Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi here today.
"A consumer is a person who uses goods and services for a consideration of price and when we approach the market we expect value of money, that is right quality and quantity, right price, information about the mode of use etc," he said.
The Consumer Protection Act 1986 is indeed a very unique and highly progressive piece of social welfare legislation with aims to provide better and all round protection to consumers, he said.
"The Act has made the consumer movement really going and more powerful, broad-based, effective and people-oriented," he said adding that the Act provides effective safeguards to the consumers against different types of exploitation.
