National docu-feature on Sawmiji on 150th birth anniversary

Introducing the centuries-old Bengali folk drama for the first time for the all India audience, the 'national' docu-biopic Swamiji, centred on the life and time of the Chicago-conqurer monk from Bengal, will now be screened across the state to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.
"Tracing the steps of Swamiji from his initiation to the world of spiritualism by Ramakrishna, to being anointed as the spearhead of the global headquarters of the saffron sect widely revered across globe, the film explores the popular folk theatre medium," National award winning docu maker Rajiv Mehrotra said about the work.
The film, commissioned by a National Committee chaired by Prime Minister was made possible with a grant from the panel on the commemoration of the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of the ageless youth icon.

"Screening Swamiji for the audience here, which chronicles his life and partly the life and times of his mentor Ramakrishna, his last days, we feel privileged," Abhijit Dasgupta of Sukriti Foundation, having collaborated with the committee for the scrrening, said.
The words and deeds of Swamiji, whose name inspires a million or more Indians even in this age ring true and prophetic in our times, Mehrotra said.
