National lok adalats dispose 8.80 lakh cases
Press Trust of India New Delhi Around 8.80 lakh cases -- related to land acquisition, revenue and rural employment scheme MNREGA -- involving an amount of Rs 200 crore were disposed by National Lok Adalat held across India.
Of these, about 69,000 were pending matters and 8.10 lakh were at pre-litigation stage and had not reached the courts, an official release said today.
National Lok Adalat were held pan-India yesterday.
There will be no further appeal in these cases, it said, adding that it would have a significant impact on the judicial system.
On the other hand, settlement of cases at pre-litigation stage would mean that, these would not reach the courts.
This was the second in a series of National Lok Adalats which are being organised every month on a specific subject matter with an aim to reduce pendency and also prevent additional litigation in the courts, where settlements are possible, it said.
