National Postal Week celebrations begin today

India Post will begin National Postal Week celebrations from today to create awareness about the role of postal sector in the lives of people and business and its contribution to social and economic development.
The celebrations, which will conclude on October 15, are also aimed at generating a broader awareness about India Post's role and activities among the public and media at national level.
"As part of National Postal Week, the Department of Posts is celebrating Savings Bank Day, Mail Day, Philately Day, Business Development Day and Postal Life Insurance Day to focus on various services provided by the department," Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle Ashok Kumar Dash said on the eve of the event.
He said the department is well aware of the changing needs of the customers and has introduced services like speed post, express/business parcel, business post, e-post, money remittance services etc.
"To utilise the full strength of vast network of post offices, we are pushing hard to tap e-commerce market and have set up parcel facility at Parel in Mumbai by having commercial tie-ups with dozens of e-commerce companies," said Dash.
In-tune with the emerging e-commerce market, the parcel product has been revamped and Cash on Delivery (CoD) facility too has been introduced, he said.

The World Post Day is being celebrated today to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital Berne.
It was declared as World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo in 1969 and since then, it is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of the postal services.
"We would celebrate Savings Bank Day tomorrow, Mail Day on October 12, Philately Day on October 13, Postal Life Insurance Day on October 14 and Business Development Day on October 15," Dash added.
