Siltation was affecting uniterrupted flow of the Ganga resulting in the reduction in the depth. It also causes tendencies like meandering and braiding which in turn have led to increase in shoal, Bihar's Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Vijay Kumari Chaudhary said last week in a letter to Bharti.
Chaudhary, quoting a survey report, claimed that morphology of the river Ganga in Bihar has undergone a change for worse after construction of Farakka barrage in West Bengal as the flow of water in downstream has been hindered resulting in amassment of water in upstream itself and causing flood in plains as matter of routine.
