The senior National Rugby 7's championship, which will see the participation of 20 teams, was inaugurated by the state Governor N N Vohra.
Vohra expressed hope that Rugby would become popular in the state with the organisation of the championship.
He asked the J&K Rugby Association president Sarmad Hafeez to organise the Rugby matches in Leh and Kargil districts next year with a view to promote the sport in the region as well.
Vohra also witnessed the inaugural match of the championship which was played between the hosts and Uttar Pradesh.
