The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has ordered a probe into the allegations of caste abuse by a Dalit student of Delhi University and sought a detailed report in this regard from the Delhi Police Commissioner.
"Following a complaint from the student, the Commission has decided to probe the matter. You are requested to submit facts, information and action taken on the allegations," NCSC said in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma.
The Commission also said it may summon Verma if it did not receive a reply in a week's time.
A student of DU's School of Open Learning (SOL) had yesterday alleged that a group of students of Hansraj College attacked him and passed casteist remarks when he was pasting posters of a protest in the institution's premises.
He had also claimed that he approached Maurice Nagar police station for filing a complaint against the group but his plea was not heard by police.
Hansraj college principal Rama Sharma had said the student met her on Monday and when she asked for his ID card, he said he wasn't a student of the college following which she informed police. She then informed police about it.
