Director of National Commission for SC/ST D Venkatesan visited Natham colony, Anna Nagar and surrounding areas and interacted with the Dalit residents of the over 260 huts which were torched on November 7 night.
Venkatesan told reporters that he would submit his report to the Commission shortly.
Meanwhile, police continued their search for 300 people allegedly involved in the arson targeting the Dalit colonies after one Nagaraj of Chellankottai village committed suicide over his daugther marrying a Dalit of Natham colony.
Police said two more persons had been arrested, taking the total number of those rounded up for the violence to 94.
Tension prevailed in the village as no one came forward to receive the body of Nagaraj kept in the government hospital here. Revenue Officials were persuading the widow of Nagaraj and the villagers to receive the body.
A team of officials comprising revenue, police and Social Welfare department are camping in the villages to prevent any any untoward incident and reassure the Dalits.
Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P.Palaniyappan, who is supervising the relief arrangements, said effective steps were being taken to restore peace in the area.
