About 350 student rowers from 50-plus schools across West Bengal and other states will compete in the seven-day 46th K C Mahidra All India Invitation School Regatta at the Lake Club from May 6.
The coxed fours event is open to junior boys and junior girls up to class X and senior boys and senior girls for class XI and XII in a league cum knock-out format.
The schools include South Point, La Martiniere, Modern High, G D Birla Centre for Education, National High, St Xaviers, St Lawrence, Jatragachi Pranabananda High School, Hatiara High among others.
Schools from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana would also be seen in action in the meet recognised by the Rowing Federaion of India.
"The meet acts as the nursery for the potential rowers as many of them like Shreya Aiyer, Aishrya Krshnan, Madhavan and Ganesh Srestha in later years have excelled in the National Rowing Championship after beginning their rowing career here," Lake Club Joint Secretary Debabrata Dutta said.
