"National Voters' Day" obseved in Nagaland

Nagaland today joined the country in observing the "National Voters' Day" and pledging to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections.
The day was observed in all the 12 districts of the state under the theme 'Easy Registration, Easy Correction'.
Awareness was created on registering one person in one place only, thereby promoting surrender of duplicate registration.
Addressing a gathering as the chief guest, state Chief Secretary C J Ponraj called upon the electorates to have attitudinal change while exercising their franchise.
He said a vote gives a politician to rule for five years and therefore it is very important that one should have the moral ethics and values while electing the leader.
"Adult franchise is a social contract between the rulers and the public," he said.
Awards for best District Election Officer, Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Election Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Booth Level Officers were also handed over to different government servants.
Newly enrolled electors were presented with their electoral photo identity card.
