Naval cadets take part in camps

More than 450 cadet trainees, including four from Mauritius, of the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala near here participated in camps which featured events such as sailing, multi-terrain runs and triathlon.
It was for the first time trainees from Mauritius took part in the three concurrent four-day camps for the II and VII term cadets pursuing short-term Naval Orientation Course that ended last night, an INA release said today.
The camps are aimed at inculcating leadership qualities, camaraderie and team spirit in the cadets under severe physical and mental duress.
The seventh term cadets rowed from INA to Madakara in the Kavvayi backwaters and then continued sailing in the Arabian Sea to reach Azhikal port. In the final leg, they sailed back to Palakkod near Ezhimala followed by a multi-terrain run back to the campsite, the release said.
A triathlon was held on the last day of the camps where II term trainees had to cover a multi-terrain run of 10 kms in full battle gear followed by an obstacle course run and swimming. The VII term trainees had to run a course of 25 kms followed by one and half km swimming and two nautical mile whaler boat pulling, it said.
Rear Admiral M D Suresh, Deputy Commandant, presented trophies and individual prizes to the winners of various competitions on the last day.
