"All echelons of the Southern Naval Command from the senior most to the junior most as well as their families participated in the cleaning and sprucing up activities," a Navy release said.
The activities included clearance of drains to prevent water logging of low lying areas, clearance of wild growth on buildings/residential quarters, pruning of hedges and maintenance of green spaces/gardens with an aim to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and other disease carriers.
The Naval Base has been having cleanliness drive by all personnel and families on a periodic basis to bring about community awareness towards realising the dream of a litter free India, it said.
The Southern Naval Command has been endeavouring to use this mission as a platform to bring about a quantum shift in the approach of the community in general towards preserving environment, green energy initiatives and correct waste management practices, the release added.
